Zoom in on Your New Career
Author: Mary Hart
Article:
Have you ever thought about a career in photography? This field
is extremely popular and competition is tough. But if you have a
sharp eye, imagination, creativity, and a love of photography,
this might be a great career for you. There are many different
areas of photography that can be lucrative. One of those areas
is commercial photography.
Commercial photographers take pictures of various subjects, such
as buildings, models, merchandise, artifacts, and landscapes.
These photographs are used in a variety of media, including
books, reports, advertisements, and catalogs.
Commercial photography can be broken down in to sub categories
such as advertising photography, landscape photography and
fashion photography to name a few.
Advertising Photography
Advertising firms need pictures to show a product or illustrate
a service. The photographer will work with the design team or
agency and is often employed in-house.
Landscape Photography
Landscape photographers take pictures of natural scenery and
locations. These pictures are often used in books, postcards,
and brochures.
Fashion Photography
Fashion photographers take picture of clothing or a product. The
photographic emphasis is on the item being photographed, not the
model who is wearing or showing it. This kind of photography is
often conducted for advertisements or fashion magazines.
Training
A college degree in photography is required for some areas of
the business. You should have at least a good technical
proficiency of photography that you learned in a degree program
or vocational training. If you are naturally gifted and have
extensive experience, this may be all you need. Have a "good
eye," and vast creativity is basic for anyone wanting to become
a photographer.
The average earning of photographers with salaried jobs is
$26,080 with the highest 10% earning more that $54,000.
*The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that employment of
photographers is expected to increase about as fast as the
average for all occupations through 2014.
